Atlas des invertébrés du Golfe de Gascogne inventoriés dans les captures des chaluts. Campagnes RESSGASC 1992-1995 et EVHOE 1995 ArchiMer
Paulmier, Gerard.
Numerous invertebrates were collected during various scientific trawling surveys carried out in the Bay of Biscay (RESSGASC, EVHOE), and the adjacent areas between 1993 and 1995. The species captured by the same trawling methods used by professional fishermen represent only a fraction of the known invertebrate fauna in the Bay. In addition to an inventory of the species, a simple key allows easy access to faunistic groups. The species, some of which are economically interesting, form the subject of a short description and, for the most part, a colour illustration.

Campagnes expérimentales de chalutage en Manche orientale. Les campagnes C.G.F.S. 1997 & 1998 ArchiMer
Carpentier, Andre; Coppin, Franck.
lfremer carries out a yearly bottom trawl survey named Channel Ground Fish Survey (CGFS) in order to collect essential biological data on major exploited fish species in the Eastern Channel. These data are also provided to feed the indispensable historie series to the yearly assessment of resources. This report presents results of the CGFS surveys for 1997 and 1998, under two aspects: a multispecific approach of the biological assemblages and integrating an interannual analysis, then a monospecific analysis of 7 species of commercial interest, as whiting, pout, cod, red gurnard, plaice, black bream, red mullet. Campagnes expérimentales de chalutage en mer du Nord et Manche Orientale. Volume I. Les campagnes I.B.T.S. 1997 & 1998 ArchiMer
Verin, Yves; Dufour, Jean-louis.
Since 1976, France participates to the International Bottom Trawl Survey (IBTS), coordinated by the International Council for Exploration of the Sea (ICES). The main objective of the survey which is carried out on board of a research vessel, is to obtain annual forecasts of recruitment for the various commercial fish species of the North Sea. These estimates are used by ICES Working Groups to assess these various stocks and to propose management measures for the following year. In addition, the data collected during these surveys concern biological and abundance analysis of main commercial fish species exploited by European countries in the North Sea. The results of studies are published in scientific papers and have improved knowledge in this field....

Efficiency of the bottom trawl used for the Mediterranean international trawl survey (MEDITS) ArchiMer
Fiorentini, Loris; Dremiere, Pierre-yves; Leonori, Iole; Sala, Antonello; Palumbo, Vito.
The aim of the work presented in this paper was to assess the relative efficiency of the GOC 73 sampling trawl used for the Mediterranean international trawl survey programme (MEDITS) compared with that of a typical Italian commercial trawl. The latter was chosen because it is commonly used by fishermen in the central Adriatic, where the experiment was conducted, and therefore appeared as the best possible sampler of the commercial species present in those areas. Moreover, this trawl is similar to the various trawls used for the Italian national survey programme (GRUND). Four fishing trips were conducted between 1996 and 1997 in different areas and seasons to sample different species. Each trip was conducted in the same fishing area. A codend cover mounted...

Fish faunal and habitat analyses using trawls, camera sleds and submersibles in benthic deep-sea habitats off central California ArchiMer
Cailliet, Gm; Andrews, Ah; Wakefield, Ww; Moreno, G; Rhodes, Kl.
Beam trawl, camera sled and submersible data from 2 000-3 300 m off central California produced similar fish faunal composition, but different density estimates. All species caught in trawls were observed in camera-sled and submersible observations. However, some rare species that were observed were not caught in trawls. The fish fauna was dominated by the families Macrouridae, Zoarcidae, Moridae, and Rajidae. Fishes both trawled and observed were the macrourids Coryphaenoides armatus, C. filifer and C. leptolepis; the zoarcids Bothrocara spp., Pachycara lepinium and Lycenchelys spp.; the morid Antimora microlepis; the rajid Bathyraja trachura, the ophidiid Spectrunculus grandis, and the liparidid Careproctus ovigerum. One unidentified liparidid...

Les pêcheries françaises du chalutage à bar : analyse de séries temporelles 1999-2007 ArchiMer
Morizur, Yvon; Meunier, M; Huet, Jerome; Martin, S.
A displacement of the fishing effort of the French pelagic trawlers from anchovy to the seabass fisheries is observed. A such situation on a non-quota managed species requires to analyse carefully the evolution in the status of seabass stocks. The evolution of fishing effort, the production and the landings per unit of effort were studied from 2000 to 2007 for the bottom trawling and for the pair pelagic trawling in the ICES sub-areas VIII and VII. The fishing effort was assessed by using a threshold on the landings by month in order to select the most effective fishing effort as representing 75 % of the effort concerned with seabass landings. Length compositions and age-length keys were used to calculate the cpue-at-age series. A total mortality value was...

Modélisation du transport sédimentaire et des interactions morphodynamiques par les courants de turbidité dans les canyons sous-marins. Application à la Méditerranée Occidentale ArchiMer
Payo Payo, Marta.
Turbidity currents in submarine canyons are the main contribution for sediment transfer across the continental margins. Geological studies of submarine canyons and associated turbiditic systems for more than 30 years led to an extraordinary breakthrough in the understanding of how turbidite systems evolve. However, these studies remain limited to a posteriori interpretations, based on the distribution of deposits and morphological evidences. The overarching aim of this thesis is to apply a 2DH process-based model to simulate large-scale turbidity currents on two different submarine canyons in the western Mediterranean coast. The work in La Fonera canyon, in the Catalan margin, focuses on the modelling of sediment transport and accumulation resulting from...

Stability of spatial structures of demersal assemblages: a multitable approach ArchiMer
Gaertner, Jean-claude; Chessel, Daniel; Bertrand, Jacques.
The present work is based on a set of bottom trawl surveys performed in the Gulf of Lions between 1983 and 1992. A new method which couples the STATIS multitable approach with the logic of correspondence analysis (CoA) is proposed to study the stability of spatial organization of demersal assemblages in terms of species composition. This CoA version of STATIS has provided a clear representation of the stable part of the spatial structure of the assemblages. In addition, it gave an insight into the interannual variations of the distribution of each population around the reference structure. Our results showed that the demersal assemblages of the Gulf of Lions exhibited strong spatial structuring, mainly orientated along a bathymetric gradient. This gradient...

Typologie de la flottille chalutière du port de Sète par une méthode de segmentation ArchiMer
Taquet, Marc; Gaertner, Jean-claude; Bertrand, Jacques.
This work aims to define a typology of trawler f1eet in Sète, the main fishing harbour along the French Mediterranean coast, using several multivariate analysis methods. The fishing ships taken to account are represented by annual profiles of landing specific compositions. Five fishing strategies have been identified. A segmentation method using symbolic objects allows a formaI characterisation of the different strategies. These strategies are studied according to several general characteristics usually used for management rules elaboration (power, length, ship age). The typological analysis allows to characterise two main exploitation ways, one directed to the catch of a few species (Engraulis encrasicolus, Sardina pilchardus), the other characterised by...
